Program Description

Event Details

Until the late 19th century, glass bottles were hand-blown and each one was unique. Collectors examine the bottle’s shape, the color of the glass, and the presence of embossing for clues to its age and provenance. These specialized enthusiasts are latter-day seekers of buried treasure — they dig through old wells and midden-heaps in search of their prizes. Learn from an avid collector and take home a memento from his bottle hunting successes. Register to attend.

Sponsored by The Friends of the Granby Public Libraries.

About the presenter:

Amherst resident Jim Thomas is a past president of the Berkshire Antique Bottle Association. He has been collecting bottles since he was ten years old, and has dug for them on hilltops, in bogs, and everywhere in between. Jim's presentation has received high marks from historical societies in Massachusetts and we're welcoming him to Connecticut!
