Learn how to sign your name like John Hancock. Calligrapher and art educator Debby Reelitz shares stories and images of famous colonists (George Washington, Phillis Wheatley, and John Hancock) and their writing implements. Get tips for setting up a writing desk with appropriate paper, nibs, and ink. Scribe a line from the Declaration of Independence! With Debby's guidance and letter samples, create a personalized signature in script using dip, nib, and ink techniques.  Marvel at your custom signature inspired from colonial times!

Adults and teens are invited to register for this America 250 program.

Sponsored by The Friends of the Granby Public Libraries and Granby's America 250 Committee.

About the instructor:

Who was the calligrapher that wrote the Declaration of Independence? How did they write during the American Revolution? What tools did they use? What lettering style?  Can I write like they did? We will explore these questions and more in this hands-on 90-minute program with calligrapher, Debby Reelitz. Participants will get the opportunity to write in script, use a dip nib and ink and scribe a line from the Declaration of Independence.

For almost 30 years, Debby Reelitz has been a professional calligrapher, creating awards, gifts, commissions, chalkboards, writing on walls, engraving, teaching and much more. She lives in North Granby, Connecticut. Information can be found at her website: https://letteringdesign.com
